Are you a hands-on Facilities Assistant, Maintenance Operative, Caretaker, or Estates Assistant looking for your next opportunity?
We're recruiting for a Facilities Assistant to join a busy and professional facilities team in Midlothian. This is a varied role where no two days are the same, offering the chance to work across building maintenance, site upkeep, compliance checks, and general facilities support.
The Role
As a Facilities Assistant, you will play a key role in ensuring buildings and grounds are maintained to a high standard, providing a safe and welcoming environment for staff, visitors, and service users.
Key responsibilities include:
✔ Carrying out basic building maintenance and minor repairs
✔ Replacing lighting and undertaking routine maintenance tasks
✔ Supporting the upkeep of external areas, including grounds, pathways, and parking facilities
✔ Conducting routine compliance checks and recording results
✔ Assisting with fire safety and emergency system inspections
✔ Monitoring water systems and carrying out scheduled testing
✔ Responding to maintenance requests and facilities-related issues
✔ Supporting contractors and service providers when on site
✔ Ensuring health and safety procedures are followed at all times
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
✔ Previous experience in facilities, maintenance, caretaking, estates, or building services
✔ Practical maintenance skills and the ability to undertake minor repairs
✔ Experience working in a busy customer-focused environment
✔ Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and email systems
✔ Strong communication and organisational skills
✔ The ability to work independently and manage your workload effectively
✔ A Full UK Driving Licence (Essential)
Experience within schools, public sector buildings, healthcare, housing, or commercial facilities would be advantageous.
