Location: Plymouth
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
Pay: £92–£96 per day (dependent on experience)
Contract: Full-Time

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Mentor to join an Alternative Provision setting in Plymouth, supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and those who have experienced trauma.

This rewarding role involves building positive relationships with students, supporting their educational engagement, emotional wellbeing, and personal development both within the provision and through regular outreach work in the local community.

Key Responsibilities
• Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs and trauma-related behaviours.
• Build trusting, consistent relationships that promote engagement and positive outcomes.
• Deliver outreach support within the community, helping students access education and wider opportunities.
• Support students in developing emotional regulation, resilience, confidence, and social skills.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues, families, and external agencies to meet students' individual needs.
• Maintain accurate records and contribute to student progress reviews.

Essential Requirements
• Experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable adults.
• Maths & English GCSE C or above
• A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
• Business insurance for vehicle use, as the role involves frequent community outreach.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

Desirable Experience
• Previous experience supporting children and young people with SEMH needs.
• Understanding of trauma-informed practice.
• Experience within alternative provision, special educational needs, youth work, social care, or similar settings.
• Knowledge of behaviour support strategies and restorative approaches.
