Looking for a Role Where Relationships Matter Most?

A highly regarded specialist SEND school in Trafford is looking to recruit compassionate and resilient SEN Teaching Assistants to support children with a range of complex learning and communication needs.

This is a school that places a huge emphasis on developing independence, enabling communication, sensory development, and creating meaningful learning experiences for every child. Many pupils have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and require specialist support throughout the school day.

If you have experience working in care, support work, residential settings, mental health services, or specialist education, your skills could be exactly what this school is looking for.

About the Pupils You'll Support

The school supports pupils with a wide range of additional needs, including:

Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties
Sensory Processing Needs
Social and Emotional Development Needs
Pupils who are non-verbal or have limited communication
Children requiring structured routines and sensory-based learning approaches
Many pupils communicate through visual supports, symbols, Makaton, sensory activities, and personalised communication systems. The school places a strong emphasis on communication and independence development.

About the Role

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

Support pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis
Help children engage with learning through sensory and practical activities
Promote communication, social interaction, and independence
Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies
Work closely with teachers, therapists, and families
Help pupils access community-based learning and life skills opportunities where appropriate
No two days are the same, making this an incredibly rewarding role for someone who enjoys building relationships and celebrating small but significant achievements.

Who Thrives in This School?

The most successful candidates often come from backgrounds such as:

SEN Teaching Assistant
Residential Childcare
Support Worker
Mental Health Support Worker
Autism Practitioner
Care Assistant
Behaviour Mentor
Youth Worker
The school values patience, empathy, consistency, and a willingness to learn far more than previous school experience alone.

What We're Looking For

✔ Experience supporting children, young people, or vulnerable adults

✔ A calm, nurturing, and resilient approach

✔ Understanding of Autism, communication needs, or sensory differences

✔ Strong relationship-building skills

✔ Ability to remain positive and proactive in challenging situations

✔ Genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
