Supply Desk is working in partnership with a supportive and well-established specialist school in the Beaconsfield area to appoint a committed and compassionate SEN Teacher specialising in Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD). This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of pupils with complex needs within a nurturing and highly supportive environment.

This role would suit a patient, creative, and resilient teacher with experience (or a strong interest) in working with pupils with SLD, complex needs, and communication difficulties, who is dedicated to delivering personalised learning and fostering independence.

The Role

As an SEN Teacher (SLD Specialist), you will support pupils with a range of complex learning needs, using a highly individualised and multi-sensory approach to learning. You will play a key role in helping pupils develop communication, life skills, and independence.

Key Responsibilities

Planning and delivering personalised, differentiated lessons tailored to pupils with SLD and complex needs
Using multi-sensory teaching approaches, including visual aids, Makaton, PECS, and interactive learning strategies
Supporting the development of communication, social, and life skills
Implementing and reviewing EHCP targets, working closely with SENCOs and external professionals
Monitoring and assessing pupil progress using appropriate frameworks (e.g. EHCP outcomes, small steps tracking)
Creating a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment
Supporting pupils with additional needs, including ASD, physical disabilities, and medical needs
Working collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, and wider support staff
Building strong relationships with parents, carers, and professionals

Requirements

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – Desirable
Experience working with pupils with SLD, PMLD, or complex needs (school-based or alternative settings)
Strong understanding of SEN practices and personalised learning approaches
Excellent behaviour management skills, with a calm and nurturing approach
Ability to adapt teaching strategies to meet highly individual needs
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Ability to work full-time in the Chesham (HP5) area from September

Desirable

Experience in a specialist school or SEN provision
Knowledge of communication strategies such as Makaton, PECS, or AAC
Experience supporting pupils with ASD, sensory needs, or medical needs
Understanding of EHCP processes and reviews
Team Teach or positive handling training
