Job Title: Hardware Engineer - Piezoelectric / Ultrasonic Systems
Duration: 6 months initially
Location: Hybrid (3 days/week) or on-site, North London
Outside IR35
Key Responsibilities
Design high-voltage and low-voltage analogue driver circuits for piezoelectric transducers, including pulser and continuous-wave excitation stages.
Develop low-noise analogue receive chains for ultrasonic signal acquisition, including LNAs, VGAs, filtering, and signal conditioning.
Design and optimise impedance matching networks to improve power transfer, sensitivity, and system efficiency.
Design and iterate PCB layouts for ultrasonic drive, receive, and mixed-signal subsystems.
Integrate piezoelectric transducers into complete hardware systems including power electronics, ADC/DAC stages, timing circuits, and embedded or FPGA-based control.
Support prototype development, bring-up, debugging, and rapid hardware iteration.
Develop and execute test and validation procedures for ultrasonic hardware performance.
Collaborate with acoustics, mechanical, and systems engineers to ensure correct transducer operation and integration within the full system.
Essential Skills
Strong analogue electronics design experience
Experience with precision analogue circuit design
PCB design/layout experience using tools such as Altium, KiCad, or equivalent
Hands-on laboratory experience with oscilloscopes, signal generators, and measurement equipment
Understanding of signal conditioning, filtering, and low-noise design principles
Strong hardware debugging and troubleshooting skills
Ability to interpret experimental data and iterate hardware designs effectively
Familiarity with embedded systems or mixed-signal hardware integration
