Outreach Support Mentor - Alternative Provision

An exciting opportunity has arisen for experienced and compassionate Outreach Support Mentors to join a specialist alternative provision supporting secondary-aged young people who face barriers to accessing mainstream education.

This rewarding role involves working directly with students who may require additional emotional, social, behavioural, or medical support to successfully re-engage with education and achieve positive long-term outcomes.

The successful candidate will provide personalised mentoring and outreach support across a variety of settings, including educational environments, community locations, and family homes. You will play a key role in helping young people build confidence, develop resilience, and overcome challenges that impact attendance, wellbeing, and engagement.

Due to the nature of this outreach-based role, regular travel between schools, family homes, and community locations is required. Applicants should therefore hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle insured for business use.

We welcome applications from individuals with a wide range of professional and lived experiences who are passionate about supporting young people and promoting inclusive education.

Main Responsibilities

Deliver targeted mentoring and outreach support to young people on a one-to-one basis

Build positive and professional relationships with students, families, and external professionals

Support pupils in developing confidence, emotional regulation, and readiness for education

Work collaboratively with education providers, families, and multi-agency teams to coordinate support plans

Maintain accurate safeguarding, attendance, and intervention records using internal systems

Contribute to support planning, restorative approaches, and wellbeing strategies

Attend meetings and reviews relating to student progress and reintegration pathways

Promote engagement, attendance, and positive outcomes through consistent and structured support

Travel regularly between educational settings, family homes, and community locations as part of the role

Candidate Profile

We are seeking individuals who:

Have experience supporting children or young people with social, emotional, behavioural, or additional learning needs

Possess strong safeguarding awareness and understand the importance of professional boundaries

Are calm, resilient, and able to work effectively under pressure

Demonstrate excellent communication, relationship-building, and organisational skills

Have experience working within education, alternative provision, youth work, social care, or similar settings

Are confident working independently as well as collaboratively within a wider team

Hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle suitable for business use

Are committed to inclusive practice and supporting vulnerable young people to succeed

What's on Offer

A supportive and forward-thinking leadership team

The opportunity to help shape and develop a growing specialist provision

A collaborative and values-driven working culture

A highly rewarding role making a meaningful impact on young people and families
