Mechanical Fitter / Site Installation & Commissioning Engineer - Bespoke Conveyor & Special Purpose Machinery
Job Type: Permanent | Full-time
Location: Harlow, Essex (workshop base) + Overseas travel; approx. 6 trips/year
Salary: Up to £45,000 PA basic + travel allowance + paid overtime (realistic earnings £65,000 PA+)

Hands-on mechanical build, installation and commissioning on bespoke conveyor systems and special purpose machinery
Varied customer site work (UK and overseas) with strong technical support from the engineering team
Long-term opportunity for a skilled fitter who enjoys seeing machinery through from build to handover and enjoys worldwide travel
The role:
This is a mechanically biased role combining workshop assembly with on-site installation and commissioning at customer facilities in the UK and overseas. You'll be building and fitting bespoke conveyor systems and special purpose machinery to a high standard, then supporting installation, alignment and commissioning on site.
Key responsibilities:
Mechanical build/assembly of bespoke conveyors and special purpose machinery from drawings/specifications
On-site installation: positioning, levelling, squaring and final mechanical set-up
Fitting and alignment of motors, gearboxes, bearings, drive shafts and rollers
Install/route/connect pipework (where applicable)
Mechanical checks, snagging, fault-finding and remedial works through to handover
Work safely to RAMS/method statements and customer site procedures
Maintain good workmanship, housekeeping and job documentation
Professional customer-facing communication during site works
Essential requirements:
Proven experience as a skilled Mechanical Fitter / Tool Fitter within industrial machinery
Strong experience with bespoke conveyor systems and special purpose machinery
Hands-on fitting: motors, gearboxes, bearings, drive shafts, rollers and pipework
Confident levelling, squaring and aligning machinery during installation
Happy to travel overseas approx. 6 times per year (passport-ready)
Comfortable working on customer sites and representing the business professionally
Right to work in the UK (and full UK driving licence preferred)
Desirable:
Exposure to installation/commissioning and SAT/FAT support
Pneumatics/hydraulics familiarity
Laser alignment experience
Apprenticeship / NVQ / City & Guilds or similar trade qualification
