We are looking for a caring, patient and reliable Teaching Assistant to support pupils within a specialist SEN school in Cardiff. The school supports primary-aged pupils with autism spectrum conditions, as well as significant sensory, social communication and learning needs.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a Teaching Assistant who has experience supporting children or young people with diabetes, either within an education, care, medical or personal support setting. The successful candidate will play an important role in helping pupils access learning safely, confidently and as independently as possible.
The role will involve supporting pupils across the school day, working closely with teaching staff, families and relevant professionals to ensure individual needs are met. You will be required to support a pupil with diabetes care in line with their Individual Healthcare Plan, including monitoring blood glucose levels, recognising signs of hypo/hyperglycaemia, supporting with snacks/mealtimes, maintaining clear records and following agreed procedures.
Previous experience supporting individuals with diabetes is essential for this role. School-specific training and guidance will be provided, but applicants must already have a good understanding of diabetes care, including the importance of following individual healthcare plans. Confidence, attention to detail and a calm, reassuring approach are essential.
The successful Teaching Assistant will:
Have experience supporting individuals with diabetes
Understand the importance of following Individual Healthcare Plans
Be confident recognising changes in presentation and responding calmly
Have experience working with children or young people with ALN/SEN
Be patient, nurturing and consistent in their approach
Be comfortable supporting pupils with communication, independence, sensory needs and emotional regulation
Work well as part of a wider school team
Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with staff and families
Be committed to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
