Job Title: Herdsperson

Overview:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Herdsperson to join a progressive dairy farming business near Uttoxeter. Working within a small and dedicated team, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day management of the herd, ensuring high standards of animal welfare, herd health and dairy performance.
We are seeking a self-motivated individual who is confident working independently when required but who also thrives as part of a close-knit team.
Responsibilities:
• Lone milking and parlour management
• Monitoring herd health and identifying issues promptly
• Administering treatments and maintaining welfare standards
• Heat detection and fertility management
• Artificial insemination
• Foot trimming and lameness management
• Calf rearing and youngstock management
• Maintaining herd records and performance data
• Supporting veterinary visits and herd health plans
• General livestock husbandry duties
• Maintaining high standards of hygiene and biosecurity
Requirements:
• Previous dairy farming experience essential
• Confident lone milker
• Strong herd health and livestock husbandry skills
• AI qualification and practical experience preferred
• Foot trimming qualification and practical experience preferred
• Calf rearing experience desirable
• Youngstock management experience desirable
• Basic tractor skills preferred but not essential
• Ability to work independently and use initiative
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
