Teaching Assistant – Secondary Alternative Provision
Location: Littlehampton, West Sussex
Start Date: September 2026
Hours: Full-time, Term Time Only
Pay: Competitive daily rate, dependent on experience

Are you passionate about supporting young people who need a different approach to education?

We are recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to join a supportive Alternative Provision in Littlehampton, working with secondary-aged pupils from September. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is patient, resilient, and committed to helping young people overcome barriers to learning and achieve positive outcomes.

The provision supports students who may have experienced challenges within mainstream education, including social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH), behavioural difficulties, or other additional support needs.

The Role

Supporting secondary-aged pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
Encouraging engagement with learning and promoting positive behaviour.
Assisting teaching staff with the delivery of lessons and activities.
Building positive, trusting relationships with students.
Supporting pupils with their social and emotional development.
Helping to maintain a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment.
Monitoring progress and providing feedback to the teaching team.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have

Experience working with secondary-aged children or young people.
A calm, patient, and resilient approach.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
The ability to build positive relationships and set clear boundaries.
A genuine desire to support vulnerable young people.
Confidence working with students who may display challenging behaviour.
Desirable Experience

Previous experience within an Alternative Provision, PRU, SEN, or SEMH setting.
Youth work, mentoring, coaching, care, or support work experience.
Behaviour management experience.
Team Teach or other relevant training (although training can be provided).
