Teaching Assistant – Alternative Provision
Location: Worthing, West Sussex
Start Date: September 2026
Hours: Full-time, Term Time Only
Pay: Competitive daily rate, dependent on experience
We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant to join a supportive Alternative Provision setting in Worthing from September.
This is a rewarding opportunity to work with young people who require additional support to engage in education. The successful candidate will play a key role in helping students overcome barriers to learning, build confidence, and achieve positive outcomes both academically and personally.
The Role
Supporting students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
Assisting with the delivery of learning activities across a range of subjects.
Encouraging positive behaviour and engagement in learning.
Building positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
Supporting students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
Helping to create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.
Contributing to student progress through observation and feedback to teaching staff.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
Experience working with children or young people, ideally within education, youth work, care, or support settings.
A calm, patient, and empathetic approach.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
The ability to remain resilient and positive when faced with challenges.
A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.
A willingness to undertake training and professional development.
Desirable Experience
Previous experience in an Alternative Provision, PRU, SEN, or SEMH setting.
Behaviour management experience.
Experience supporting students with additional learning or emotional needs.
