Managing Quantity Surveyor

South East (West Sussex & Hampshire)

A leading civil engineering and infrastructure contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to support the delivery of major infrastructure and utility projects across the South East.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established business with a strong pipeline of long-term secured work across water, utilities and civil engineering frameworks, offering genuine career progression and the opportunity to lead commercial teams on high-profile projects.

The Role

As Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will take ownership of the commercial performance of multiple projects, working closely with operational teams and senior management to ensure successful delivery from tender stage through to final account.

You'll play a key role in driving commercial strategy, managing risk, mentoring commercial teams and ensuring projects achieve their financial objectives.

Projects range from £200k to £10m+, with responsibility for managing multiple schemes simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the commercial management of multiple infrastructure and civil engineering projects

Produce accurate cost reporting, forecasting and monthly CVRs

Manage project cash flow and applications for payment

Oversee subcontract procurement, negotiation and commercial management

Administer NEC and IChemE contracts, including change management and compensation events

Identify and mitigate commercial risks while maximising opportunities

Manage stakeholder and client relationships

Support project teams with commercial advice and best practice

Ensure compliance with commercial processes and governance procedures

Mentor and manage Quantity Surveyors within the commercial team

Drive profitability and commercial performance across your portfolio of projects

About You

To be considered, you will have:

Previous experience as a Managing Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering, infrastructure, water or utilities sectors

Proven experience working for a main contractor

Strong NEC3 and NEC4 contract knowledge

Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously

Strong commercial, contractual and financial management skills

Experience leading and mentoring commercial teams

Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills

Strong forecasting, reporting and cost control experience

Desirable

Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline

MRICS, MCIOB or working towards professional accreditation

Experience within water and utility frameworks

Experience working within a direct delivery environment
