This is a critical role responsible for safeguarding the integrity of inventory records, ensuring robust stock control processes are consistently applied and providing reliable inventory data to support operational decision-making and financial reporting. The successful candidate will act as the Group subject matter expert for inventory management, stock control processes and ERP system governance, working closely with Finance, Operations, Logistics and IT teams across multiple locations.
Reporting to the Finance Director, you will lead inventory assurance activities across the Group, oversee stocktaking programmes, drive inventory accuracy, investigate discrepancies and implement sustainable control improvements. You will be responsible for developing and embedding inventory policies, ensuring compliance with control standards and supporting both internal and external audit requirements.
The role requires a combination of hands-on operational involvement, strong systems expertise and the ability to influence stakeholders across a complex multi-site environment. You will work closely with site teams to ensure inventory controls are not only well designed but consistently followed in practice, helping to improve stock accuracy, reduce losses and strengthen financial reporting integrity.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced inventory, stock control or warehouse operations professional who enjoys driving process improvement, strengthening controls and working across a diverse operational business.
Responsibilities:
Lead and oversee stocktaking activities across all Group locations, ensuring inventory records accurately reflect physical stock holdings.
Manage cycle counting programmes, stock reconciliations and variance investigations to maintain high levels of inventory accuracy.
Investigate stock discrepancies, transaction errors, transfer issues and inventory variances, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
Monitor inventory shrinkage, stock losses and control weaknesses, highlighting risks and driving preventative measures.
Support month-end financial reporting by ensuring inventory valuations, adjustments and reconciliations are completed accurately and on time.
Act as a key contact for internal and external audit activities relating to inventory controls, stock management and reconciliation processes.
Develop, implement and maintain Group inventory control policies, procedures and minimum control standards.
Establish clear standards for stock movements, inventory transactions, reconciliations, stock counts, adjustments and variance management.
Ensure strong master data governance and accuracy across inventory records, item set-up and units of measure within Group ERP systems.
Develop and manage risk-based inventory audit programmes, including control reviews, compliance testing and physical stock verification activities.
Conduct site reviews, spot checks and process audits to assess compliance with inventory policies and identify improvement opportunities.
Work closely with operational stakeholders to ensure inventory controls are understood, embedded and consistently applied across all locations.
Produce inventory control reporting and management information, highlighting accuracy trends, inventory risks, stock losses and required corrective actions.
Act as an escalation point for significant inventory control issues that could impact financial reporting or operational performance.
Provide training, guidance and support to site managers and colleagues on inventory processes, stock management and ERP system usage.
Develop and promote best practice standards for inventory management, stock control and system discipline across the Group.
Coach, support and develop direct reports, building capability and succession strength within the inventory team.
Collaborate with Finance, Operations, Logistics, Product Management and IT teams to improve inventory processes and system effectiveness.
Support the implementation of new inventory processes, control improvements and ERP system enhancements across the business.
Ensure compliance with all Group inventory control policies, procedures and governance requirements.
