Position: Solar Installation Project Manager
Location: Coleshill-based (Field-based with National Travel)
Employment Type: Permanent
Salary: £50,000 – £65,000 (Dependent on experience)

About the Role
The Solar Installation Project Manager is responsible for delivering commercial and domestic solar PV projects across the UK, from contract award through to commissioning and handover. This role oversees planning, procurement, construction, grid connection, compliance, and financial performance to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
This position requires strong leadership, deep knowledge of UK grid and regulatory processes, and extensive experience managing subcontractors and multi-disciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery & Programme Management
* Manage the end-to-end delivery of solar PV installations (Domestic New Build, Commercial Rooftop, Ground-Mount, and Carport).
* Develop and maintain detailed project programmes (Gantt charts) to track milestones, risks, and critical paths.
* Coordinate design, procurement, and construction phases, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and to specification.
* Oversee domestic new build MCS certificates and handover packs.
Grid, Regulatory & Compliance Coordination
* Manage DNO applications and grid connection processes (G98 / G99 forms).
* Ensure strict compliance with planning permissions, building control, and MCS standards.
* Ensure all electrical works comply with BS 7671 Wiring Regulations.
* Manage final commissioning, energisation approvals, and client handover.
Financial & Commercial Management
* Manage project budgets, cost control, and financial forecasting, tracking all project expenses.
* Review subcontractor quotations and initiate purchase orders.
* Monitor variations and change orders to protect project margins, reporting performance to senior management.
Contractor & Stakeholder Management
* Appoint and manage subcontractors, installers, and suppliers, evaluating progress reports to mitigate risks.
* Lead the project team, providing clear direction and support to engineers, construction workers, and consultants throughout the project lifecycle.
* Act as the primary liaison between clients, stakeholders, engineers, and Distribution Network Operators (DNOs).
Health, Safety & Quality Assurance
* Ensure full compliance with CDM Regulations 2015.
* Review and approve Method Statements and Risk Assessments (RAMS).
* Conduct site Pre-starts, Inspections, Audits, Quality Assurance checks, and Practical Completions to ensure safety performance remains high.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
3–5+ years’ project management experience within solar PV, renewables, or electrical construction.
Strong working knowledge of UK commercial and domestic solar PV systems.
Proven experience managing subcontractors and multi-site projects nationwide.
Solid understanding of DNO grid application processes (G98/G99).
Proficient in MS Project, Excel, and modern project management software.
Full UK driving licence (willingness to travel nationally is essential).
Desirable:
SMSTS qualification.
IOSH or NEBOSH certification.
Electrical background (e.g., 18th Edition is highly advantageous).
Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
Experience with battery storage or EV charging integration.
Remuneration & Package
Base Salary: £50,000 – £65,000
Project Delivery Bonus: £100.00 per project, paid monthly in arrears upon completion (provided there is no less than 10% margin erosion).
Positive Margin Bonus: Paid at 10% of any additional margin achieved over and above the pre-agreed expected project margin (paid the month following completion once fully costed).
Holiday Allowance: 20 Days + all Bank Holidays.
Tools of the Trade: Company vehicle, mobile phone, and laptop.
Benefits: Company Pension Scheme (with opt-out option) & structured 3-month performance review.
