Electrician - Rail Depots (GTR Southern Network)
Location / Working Area
This role covers a range of GTR Southern railway depots and maintenance facilities across the Southern network. You will be required to travel between sites as part of your normal duties, supporting operational maintenance and responding to works as required.
Typical depot locations within the patch may include (but are not limited to):
Selhurst Depot (South London)
Stewarts Lane Depot (South London / Battersea area)
Brighton Lovers Walk Depot
Gatwick / Three Bridges area facilities
Hove and surrounding Southern maintenance sites
The role is multi-site based, meaning you will not be fixed to one depot. Work will be scheduled across different locations depending on operational requirements, planned maintenance programmes, and response to faults.
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Electrician to support maintenance and electrical works across multiple GTR Southern railway depots. This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy and essential rail environment, ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of depot facilities and supporting critical transport infrastructure.
Role Overview
You will be responsible for carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), fault finding, repairs, and installation work across a range of depot electrical systems and equipment. The role requires flexibility to travel between sites within the Southern depot network and the ability to work both independently and as part of a wider maintenance team.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out electrical maintenance, testing, and inspection across depot facilities
Diagnose faults and complete timely repairs on electrical systems and equipment
Install, modify, and upgrade electrical infrastructure as required
Ensure all work is completed in line with current regulations and safety standards (including BS7671)
Respond to breakdowns and urgent maintenance issues as required
Maintain accurate records of work completed, including compliance documentation
Work collaboratively with other trades and depot staff to minimise disruption to operations
Requirements
Fully qualified Electrician (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent)
18th Edition Wiring Regulations certification
Experience in industrial, commercial, or rail/transport environments (preferred)
Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
Ability to work safely and independently in operational environments
Full UK driving licence (desirable due to travel between depots)
Desirable
Testing & Inspection qualification (2391 or equivalent)
Experience working within railway, depot, or heavy industrial settings
Knowledge of health & safety procedures in operational transport environments
