Overview
Our Clinent are seeking an experienced Freelance Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial management of a major electricity framework in Scotland. This role will involve working on a portfolio of infrastructure projects, ensuring robust cost control, contract compliance, and commercial delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Manage all commercial aspects of electricity infrastructure projects across the framework
Prepare, review, and manage cost estimates, budgets, and forecasts
Administer contracts (likely NEC forms) including variations, compensation events, and change control
Carry out valuations, interim applications, and final accounts
Monitor project costs and identify risks and opportunities
Provide accurate commercial reporting to internal stakeholders
Review subcontractor quotations, appointments, and ongoing performance
Support procurement activities and supplier negotiations
Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and company procedures
Liaise closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to drive commercial outcomes
Key Requirements
Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within utilities or electricity infrastructure (e.g., transmission, distribution, substations, cabling)
Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts (NEC3/NEC4 preferred)
Experience working on framework agreements is highly desirable
Demonstrable track record of delivering effective cost control and contract administration
Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
Qualifications & Skills
Degree-qualified (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management
Membership of RICS (or working towards) is preferable
Proficiency in commercial systems and MS Excel
Full UK driving licence (site visits may be required)
Working Arrangements
Hybrid working model - combination of home working and office presence in Glasgow
Occasional travel to project sites across Scotland
Contract Details
Competitive day rate (dependent on experience)
Contract duration: Initial term with strong potential for extension
