SEMH Behaviour Support Staff (Full-Time & Day-to-Day Supply)

📍 Shrewsbury

We are recruiting confident, resilient, and down-to-earth staff to join a specialist alternative education setting supporting children and young people with significant trauma, SEMH needs, and complex behavioural profiles.

This is a highly active, relationship-led environment where staff play a vital role in providing stability, structure, and positive adult role-modelling for learners who may have experienced disrupted education and adverse childhood experiences.

Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH)

The Role

We are seeking staff for:

Full-time, long-term roles
Day-to-day / flexible supply cover

You will be working with secondary-aged pupils, with some primary transition provision on selected days, supporting engagement in learning, behaviour regulation, and structured physical and academic activities.

The setting includes:

Breakout learning spaces for Maths and English
A sports-led engagement approach, including structured physical activity (including use of a boxing ring for controlled, therapeutic movement sessions)
Trauma-informed behaviour support systems
Working Hours
Monday to Friday
9:30am - 2:30pm
Key Responsibilities
Building strong, consistent, and trusting relationships with pupils
Supporting learners with emotional regulation and behaviour management
Delivering and assisting with structured physical activities and interventions
Supporting engagement in core learning (Maths and English)
Maintaining a calm, consistent, and supportive adult presence throughout the day
Working closely with colleagues to maintain safety, structure, and routine
What We're Looking For
Experience working with challenging behaviour is essential
A background in sports, coaching, fitness, or physical activity is highly desirable and strongly preferred
Confident, resilient, and emotionally grounded individuals
Strong relationship-building skills with young people
Ability to stay calm, consistent, and professional in challenging situations
Team-focused, reliable, and adaptable approach
Dress Code
Sportswear must be worn daily (comfortable, practical clothing suitable for active engagement)
Ideal Candidates Will Be
Comfortable working in high-need SEMH environments
Energetic and active in approach rather than purely classroom-based
Skilled at building trust with young people who may be distrustful of adults
Consistent, fair, and able to set clear boundaries
Motivated by making a long-term difference in young people's lives

Aspire People Limited provides services as an Education Agency and an Education Employment Business. Aspire People is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils and expects every candidate to share this commitment. Placements are subject, to appropriate Child Protection screening, including checks with former employers and the Disclosure and Barring Checks
