About the Role
A specialist SEN school in Lambeth is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team. This is a rewarding opportunity to support children and young people with a range of additional and complex needs within a structured, nurturing, and supportive learning environment.
The school caters for pupils with Autism (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), speech and language needs, and complex learning difficulties. You will work closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to help pupils access learning, develop communication skills, and achieve their individual goals.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN
* Support learning activities and classroom engagement throughout the school day
* Assist pupils with communication, emotional regulation, and social development
* Support the implementation of EHCP targets and personalised learning plans
* Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and support staff
* Encourage independence, confidence, and life skills development
* Use positive behaviour management strategies and communication tools to support learning
* Support pupils with personal care where required
* Contribute to a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
* Experience working with children or young people with SEN
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
* Patient, caring, and resilient approach
* Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
* Commitment to supporting children with complex learning needs
* Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
* Right to Work in the UK
Desirable:
* Experience within a specialist SEN school or education setting
* Knowledge of ASC, SLD, PMLD, SEMH, or speech and language needs
* Experience using PECS, Makaton, AAC, or sensory-based approaches
* Background in education, care, youth work, or support work
