Project Manager – AMP8 Water Works
North West & Cumbria
Salary: £65,000 – £75,000 depending on experience
15 - 20 month scheme starting in Liverpool in August
We are recruiting for an experienced Project Manager to support the delivery of a major AMP8 water-sector scheme in the North West, with a £15m–£20m project due to start in Liverpool in August.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hard-working and dynamic Project Manager with strong experience in the water sector, particularly across reinforced concrete, shaft sinking, and United Utilities environments.
The Role
As Project Manager, you will be responsible for managing the full project lifecycle, from design and ECI through to construction, commissioning, and handover.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Managing water-sector projects from early contractor involvement through to commissioning
* Defining project scopes, identifying technical requirements, and developing robust, deliverable project plans
* Overseeing reinforced concrete works, shaft sinking, and associated civil engineering activities
* Working within a United Utilities environment and ensuring compliance with client requirements
* Managing project costs, forecasting expenditure, and monitoring commercial performance
* Leading site teams and resources, including supporting the development of team members
* Managing contractual relationships, including NEC4 contracts, variations, and change management
* Ensuring works are delivered in line with UK water regulations, environmental permits, and health, safety, and environmental legislation
* Identifying, tracking, and mitigating project risks throughout the project lifecycle
* Acting as the key point of contact between clients, contractors, regulatory bodies, and local communities
* Liaising with stakeholders including the Environment Agency, Ofwat, local authorities, and supply chain partners where required
* Inspecting completed installations to ensure works are delivered to specification and in line with industry best practice
The Candidate
The successful candidate will have proven experience managing water-sector projects, ideally within an AMP, United Utilities, or similar regulated utility environment.
You will ideally have:
* Experience working as a Project Manager within the water, wastewater, utilities, or heavy civils sector
* Strong knowledge of reinforced concrete works, shaft sinking, and associated civil engineering activities
* Experience managing projects from design/ECI through to commissioning and handover
* Previous exposure to United Utilities projects or frameworks
* Strong commercial awareness, including cost control, forecasting, variations, and change management
* Working knowledge of NEC4 contracts
* A strong understanding of UK water regulations, environmental permits, and HSE legislation
* Ability to manage teams, subcontractors, resources, and stakeholder relationships
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to act as the main point of contact for clients and delivery partners
* A proactive, organised, and solutions-focused approach to project delivery
