Mechanical Manager - Ship Repair
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Manager with a background in ship repair to lead and oversee vessel maintenance, refit, and repair activities. This role is responsible for ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Lead delivery of ship repair, maintenance, and refit projects
Manage and coordinate multi-disciplinary teams (mechanical, production, subcontractors)
Oversee mechanical scope including inspection, repair, installation, and testing of marine systems
Act as primary point of contact for clients and key stakeholders
Ensure compliance with HSE, quality, and regulatory standards
Manage budgets, schedules, and resource planning
Monitor progress, mitigate risks, and resolve delivery issues
Support tendering, estimating, and planning for new work
Drive continuous improvement across ship repair operations
Essential Requirements
Minimum 5 years' experience within ship repair, dry dock operations, or vessel maintenance
Strong mechanical background within marine or heavy engineering environments
Proven experience managing complex maintenance or refit projects
Solid understanding of marine mechanical systems and repair methods
Experience managing budgets, schedules, and stakeholder expectations
Strong leadership and team management capability
Effective communication and problem-solving skills
Desirable
Experience in naval, commercial marine, or defence sectors
Knowledge of marine regulations and class requirements
Relevant engineering qualification (mechanical or marine)Location - Southampton
