System Design Engineer
Location: Redhill, Surrey

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a System Design Engineer to join a specialist engineering organisation delivering complex communications, networking, and technology solutions to customers operating in challenging environments across maritime, defence, government, and commercial sectors. This role is located in Redhill, Surrey

Working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will be responsible for producing high-quality electrical and mechanical designs, supporting projects from concept through to manufacture and installation. This role offers the opportunity to influence design standards, contribute to new product development, and work on technically challenging systems.

Key Responsibilities of System Design Engineer
Produce detailed electrical and mechanical drawings to support engineering and project delivery teams.
Develop design concepts from initial requirements through to final production documentation.
Create high-quality 2D and 3D CAD drawings in accordance with recognised industry and ISO standards.
Produce electrical schematics, system layouts, wiring diagrams, enclosure designs, and mechanical assembly drawings.
Generate STEP files and other manufacturing outputs for customers, suppliers, and production teams.
Refine and develop preliminary mechanical concepts into production-ready designs.
Support the design of electrical enclosures, control panels, and 19-inch rack-based systems.
Produce supporting documentation including bills of materials, technical drawings, and installation documentation.
Create Visio diagrams and technical illustrations where required.
Knowledge of:
BS7671 Wiring Regulations (18th Edition)
Electricity at Work Regulations
EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) requirements
Low Voltage Directive (LVD)
BS8888 technical drawing standards
Support design reviews and ensure engineering outputs meet customer and regulatory requirements.
Project Support
Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, project management, and installation teams.
Support projects throughout the full design lifecycle.
Manage multiple design activities and priorities simultaneously.
Provide technical input during design reviews and customer discussions.
Take ownership of assigned tasks and drive them through to completion.
Skills & Experience of System Design Engineer
HNC, HND, Apprenticeship, Degree, or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
Minimum 4 years' experience producing electrical and mechanical engineering drawings within an engineering environment.
Strong understanding of engineering design principles and manufacturing processes.
Experience creating detailed technical drawings to recognised industry standards.
Knowledge of material properties and manufacturing techniques.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
5+ years' experience in electrical or systems design.
Experience designing electrical enclosures, control panels, or communications equipment racks.
Familiarity with EMC and Low Voltage Directive requirements.
Knowledge of telecommunications, defence, maritime, aerospace, or systems integration environments.
Must be a British Passport holder
Must be able to travel and work in Redhill, Surrey
