Overview

We are currently recruiting experienced Slingers to support major engineering and shipbuilding programmes within a highly regulated industrial environment. This role plays a key part in ensuring the safe movement of materials, equipment and engineering loads while supporting a variety of production and vessel-related activities.

The successful candidate will work closely with crane operators, supervisors and production teams to facilitate safe lifting operations, support vessel activities and ensure work is completed in accordance with safety, quality and operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out slinging and signalling duties for lifting operations.
Ensure loads are correctly prepared, secured and guided during lifting activities.
Work safely at all times in accordance with Health & Safety regulations, site procedures and industry standards.
Interpret work instructions and engineering information to confirm operational requirements.
Select and prepare lifting accessories, materials, consumables and equipment.
Support production activities through the safe movement of materials and equipment.
Assist with confined space operations and permit-controlled activities where trained and authorised.
Support care, preservation and temporary protection activities on vessels and structures.
Carry out cleaning and maintenance support duties as required.
Verify completed work meets required quality standards and customer specifications.

Duties May Include

Slinging and signalling for crane operations.
Supporting boat and vessel movements.
Confined space support activities.
Air monitoring and permit-related activities.
Industrial and biohazard cleaning.
Temporary protection and preservation activities.
Assisting plant, maintenance and production teams.
General yard support and logistics activities.
Vehicle operations including van driving.
Operation of forklifts, pallet trucks and material handling equipment (where qualified).
Operation of MEWPs, cherry pickers and scissor lifts (where qualified).

Essential Requirements

Previous experience as a Slinger/Signaller within shipbuilding, construction, manufacturing, engineering or heavy industrial environments.
Valid Slinger/Signaller certification.
Strong understanding of safe lifting practices and load handling procedures.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced production environment.
Good communication skills and a proactive approach to safety.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, instructions and lifting documentation.
Commitment to maintaining high standards of quality, safety and environmental compliance.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

Experience supporting crane operations within a shipyard environment.
Confined Space training.
Care and Protection training.
Forklift Truck licence.
MEWP, Cherry Picker or Scissor Lift certification.
Full UK Driving Licence.
Experience assisting with vessel movements and production support activities.
Knowledge of temporary protection and preservation systems.
