Principal Platform Engineer

Location: South West (Hybrid - 3 days on-site)
Security: Must be eligible for SC Clearance
Salary: Up to £110,000 per annum

iO Associates are supporting an in innovative engineering organisation delivering cutting-edge technology for complex, mission-critical environments in their search for a Principal Platform Engineer.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you'll design and build resilient infrastructure for distributed systems operating in environments with limited or unreliable connectivity. You'll work on challenging problems around orchestration, security, automation, observability, and platform architecture, helping to create systems that continue to operate when conventional approaches fall short.

What you'll be working on:

  • Designing scalable platforms for edge and distributed environments
  • Building secure, containerised infrastructure and orchestration capabilities
  • Developing infrastructure-as-code, automation, and GitOps workflows
  • Improving platform security through trusted device identity and secure provisioning
  • Creating robust observability and life cycle management solutions
  • Influencing technical strategy while remaining close to the code

Requirements:

  • Strong experience with platform engineering, distributed systems, or edge computing
  • Expertise in Kubernetes, containers, Infrastructure as Code, and CI/CD
  • Knowledge of secure platform design, remote device management, or systems resilience
  • Solid software engineering experience, with the capability to build automation, tooling, and core platform services.
  • A pragmatic engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and mentoring others
