CNC Machinist – EDM & Multi-Axis Milling Specialist
Location: Birmingham
Salary: £34,000 – £37,500 + Overtime Available
Days

Our client is a well-established precision engineering business seeking an experienced Precision Machinist with expertise in EDM (Spark and Wire Erosion) and Multi-Axis CNC Milling. This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly skilled manufacturing team producing complex, high-precision components for demanding engineering sectors.

The Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for manufacturing precision components and tooling to extremely tight tolerances while maintaining the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
⦁ Set, operate and optimise 3, 4 and 5-axis CNC milling machines.
⦁ Program, set and run both sinker EDM and wire EDM machines.
⦁ Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models and technical specifications.
⦁ Manufacture components to tight tolerances and high surface-finish requirements.
⦁ Select suitable tooling, fixtures and machining strategies for complex jobs.
⦁ Carry out in-process inspection using a range of precision measuring equipment.
⦁ Perform routine machine maintenance and basic fault-finding activities.
⦁ Collaborate with production and engineering teams to meet delivery targets.
⦁ Maintain high standards of quality, safety and housekeeping across the workshop.

Candidate Requirements
Essential Experience
⦁ Proven experience with:
⦁ Sinker EDM / Spark Erosion
⦁ Wire EDM / Wire Erosion
⦁ Multi-axis CNC Milling
⦁ Strong understanding of precision engineering and machining principles.
⦁ Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and GD&T.
⦁ Experience working to micron-level tolerances.
⦁ CNC programming knowledge and familiarity with CAM software.
⦁ Competent using inspection equipment including micrometers, verniers and gauges.
⦁ Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
⦁ Ability to work independently and within a team environment.

Desirable Experience
⦁ Engineering apprenticeship or relevant manufacturing qualification.
⦁ Experience within aerospace, tooling, mould, die or high-precision engineering environments.
⦁ Knowledge of CAD/CAM packages such as Fusion 360.
⦁ Experience working with Fanuc, Heidenhain or Siemens controls.
