We are recruiting an Estate Operative to support estate and grounds maintenance services across the Sunderland area. These are hands‑on, outdoor roles focused on maintaining high standards across residential estates.
Depending on the demand you will need to cover the work at two depots:
1 x Leechmere Depot
2 Claymere Road, Sunderland, SR2 9TQ
1 x Hetton Lyons Depot
Hetton Lyons Industrial Estate, Hetton‑le‑Hole, Houghton‑le‑Spring, DH5 0RHWorking Arrangements
Operatives work in a minimum of two‑person teams
Each team is allocated a vehicle for the working day (desirable)
Candidates must be able to travel to and from their allocated depot
Some flexibility is required to support service and business needs, including covering other areas when requiredWorking Hours (Spring / Summer)
Monday to Friday
07:30 - 16:00
30‑minute unpaid lunch breakKey Responsibilities
Deliver a high‑quality estate service, responding effectively to customer needs
Carry out grounds maintenance duties including:
Grass cutting
Hedge trimming and pruning
Strimming and weed control
Leaf clearance
Litter and debris removal
Ensure all work meets required technical and quality standards
Work closely with the Estate Supervisor to maintain service delivery
Promote teamwork, inclusion and positive working relationships
Contribute to continuous improvement across the serviceEssential / Desirable Criteria
Full UK driving licence
Experience in grounds maintenance or estate services (desirable)
Reliable, practical and able to work effectively as part of a team
Good awareness of health and safety standards
