Role Purpose

PCV Driver will provide a safe, efficient, effective, and timely transport service for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). You will be responsible for the allocated vehicle, the safe passage of clients, goods, and equipment, and for working flexibly to meet the needs of the service.

Key Responsibilities

*

Safely drive passenger-carrying vehicles, ensuring compliance with all transport and road safety regulations.

*

Carry out daily vehicle checks, reporting any defects, and maintaining cleanliness and hygiene.

*

Assist passengers with SEND, including physical, learning, and behavioural difficulties, using appropriate aids and equipment.

*

Provide escort duties when required, supporting passengers during boarding, travel, and alighting.

*

Follow scheduled pick-up and drop-off points, reporting any delays or issues to the control office.

*

Ensure accurate record-keeping and complete all incident/accident documentation as required.

*

Liaise professionally with parents, carers, school staff, and colleagues.

*

Work independently and take initiative to resolve issues that may arise during journeys.

*

Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusive practice at all times.

Requirements

*

PCV/D Licence (clean) – more than eight passenger seats and longer than 5.5 metres.

*

Driver CPC and Digital Tachograph Card.

*

Experience of driving large passenger vehicles (desirable).

*

Experience working with passengers with SEND and/or disabilities (desirable).

*

Experience using passenger/wheelchair tail lifts (desirable).

*

Knowledge of road traffic legislation, equality, and diversity requirements.

*

Basic first aid knowledge or willingness to train.

*

Enhanced DBS (we can help you sort one out)

What We Offer

*

CPC Training (7 hours) subsidised by Hackney SEND Travel Assistance Service.

*

30 hours paid per week (split shift) – term-time only.

*

40 weeks’ pay spread across 52 weeks.

*

Ongoing training provided and paid.

*

Permanent opportunities available in the near future.
