SEND Teaching Assistant - Primary Schools - Oldham
Empowering Learning

Empowering Learning is seeking dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistants to support pupils with additional needs in primary schools across Oldham. We have full-time, part-time, and flexible roles available, with starts available immediately and throughout the academic year.

As an SEND Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in helping children with a range of special educational needs thrive within a safe, inclusive and supportive school environment. Roles vary across EYFS, KS1 and KS2, including 1:1 support, small group intervention and classroom-based assistance.

The role will involve:

Providing tailored 1:1 or small group support to pupils with SEND, including ASD, SEMH, speech and language needs, learning delays and physical/medical needs

Supporting individual education plans (IEPs) and EHCP outcomes

Using SEN strategies to help pupils engage, regulate and make progress

Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils to promote confidence and independence

Working closely with class teachers, SENCOs and external professionals

Helping maintain a positive, structured and nurturing learning environment

Assisting with personal care where required (training can be provided)

We are looking for SEND Teaching Assistants who:

Have experience supporting children or young people with special educational needs

Are patient, resilient, empathetic and committed to helping pupils overcome barriers

Are confident following guidance from teachers and SEN staff

Have strong communication and teamwork skills

Are adaptable and able to respond calmly to challenging situations

Ideally hold a relevant qualification (e.g. Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching & Learning or SEND) - desirable, not essential
