Engineering Buyer — Direct Spend
Location: Kirkbymoorside, North Yorkshire
Sector: Specialist engineering and advanced manufacturing
Based: on site Monday to Friday – non negotiable
Salary: on application
An established engineering manufacturer is looking to appoint an experienced Buyer to manage direct spend across complex engineered components, materials, and subcontract services.
The role covers the full purchasing cycle, including sourcing, supplier negotiation, purchase-order management, expediting, and delivery performance.
You will work closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure parts meet technical, cost, quality, and delivery requirements.
Key responsibilities
* Source direct materials and engineered components.
* Purchase mechanical, electrical and hydraulic parts.
* Interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
* Negotiate pricing, lead times, payment terms and supply agreements.
* Manage supplier quality, delivery and OTIF performance.
* Expedite urgent orders and resolve supply issues.
* Track savings, benchmark costs and monitor market conditions.
* Maintain accurate purchasing records through ERP/MRP systems.
* Resolve invoice queries and support effective cash-flow management.
Candidate profile
You will have previous experience as a Technical Buyer, Engineering Buyer or Manufacturing Buyer within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
Strong experience of direct procurement, supplier negotiation and reading technical drawings is essential. ERP/MRP experience is also required.
CIPS or an engineering qualification would be advantageous but is not essential
