Transport Manager

£40,000 - £45,000 DOE
Monday – Friday

The Opportunity:

We are recruiting for an experienced Transport Manager to join a well-established logistics business operating a busy Cardiff depot.

This is a hands-on management role responsible for leading the transport operation, ensuring vehicles, drivers, and planning functions operate efficiently whilst maintaining full compliance with all transport legislation and Operator Licence requirements.

The successful candidate will play a key role in driving operational performance, managing driver engagement, and delivering exceptional service levels to customers.

The Role:

Reporting into senior management, responsibilities will include:

* Managing the day-to-day transport operation.

* Leading and developing a team of drivers, planners, and transport administrators.

* Ensuring compliance with all Operator Licence requirements, DVSA regulations, driver hours, and Working Time Directive legislation.

* Overseeing route planning and fleet utilisation to maximise efficiency.

* Managing driver performance, attendance, and conduct.

* Monitoring transport KPIs and implementing improvements where required.

* Investigating service failures and implementing corrective actions.

* Managing vehicle maintenance schedules, defect reporting, and compliance documentation.

* Working closely with customers and internal departments to ensure service excellence.

* Identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs.

* Supporting recruitment, onboarding, and training of transport personnel.

* Promoting a positive health and safety culture throughout the operation.

About You:

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:

* Previous experience within a Transport Manager, Assistant Transport Manager, or Senior Transport Planner role.

* CPC National qualification.

* Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation and compliance requirements.

* Experience managing drivers and transport teams.

* Excellent planning, organisational, and problem-solving skills.

* Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced logistics environment.

* Strong communication and leadership abilities.

* A proactive approach with a focus on continuous improvement.
