Quality Engineer – Welding & Coatings
Working from home & Visiting Sites across the UK
Up to £55,000 per annum + Expenses + Benefits
Overview
We are looking for a Quality Engineer to ensure quality performance across externally supplied fabrication activities, with a focus on welding, surface preparation, and paint/coating systems. You will act as the key supplier quality interface, internal SME, and technical authority, ensuring compliance with contractual, regulatory, and internal requirements while driving continuous improvement across the supply chain.
Key Responsibilities
Act as the main quality contact for fabrication, welding, and coating suppliers
Review and approve WPS, PQRs, WPQs, welding qualifications, and coating procedures
Define and manage Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs)
Support supplier, third-party, and customer inspections (including hold/witness points and FATs)
Manage supplier non-conformances, including root cause analysis and corrective actions
Support supplier audits, performance monitoring, and improvement activities
Review supplier documentation including weld maps, data packs, and certification records
Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, internal procedures, and customer requirements
Work closely with Engineering, Procurement, Projects, and Operations teams
About You
Experience in supplier quality or quality engineering within fabrication environments
Strong knowledge of welding standards, NDT, and coating systems
Experience handling technical documentation (WPS, PQR, WPQ, ITPs, etc.)
Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications
Confident communicator with strong influencing skills
Experience managing multiple suppliers and priorities
Desirable Experience
CSWIP / ICorr / NACE (or equivalent) qualifications
Experience in regulated industries such as oil & gas or petrochemical
Working Arrangements
Based in Bristol with hybrid working available
Occasional UK and overseas travel to supplier sites
PPE required for site visits
