Candidate Profile

An experienced and motivated Plant Fitter with strong workshop and field service experience carrying out servicing, maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on a wide range of construction plant, agricultural machinery, recycling equipment, and associated vehicles.

Skilled in diagnosing and rectifying hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, and electronic faults, with the ability to work independently or as part of a team. Experienced in both planned preventative maintenance and reactive breakdown repair, ensuring equipment remains safe, compliant, and operational.

A reliable and customer-focused engineer with a strong work ethic, excellent fault-finding abilities, and a commitment to delivering high standards of workmanship.

Key Responsibilities

Service, maintain, and repair a wide range of plant machinery and equipment. Diagnose and rectify hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and electronic faults. Carry out planned preventative maintenance inspections and respond to breakdowns and emergency repair requests both in the workshop and on customer sites. Complete safety inspections and ensure equipment remains compliant with industry standards. Accurately complete service documentation, inspection reports, and maintenance records. Maintain a safe and organised working environment while providing professional customer service and technical support. Work effectively under pressure to minimise equipment downtime.

Plant & Equipment Experience

Experience working on excavators, telehandlers, loading shovels, dumpers, rollers, crushers and screening equipment, agricultural machinery, forklifts, diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical and electronic control systems. Experience with manufacturers such as Caterpillar, JCB, Komatsu, Volvo, Hitachi, Terex, Liebherr, Case, or similar equipment would be advantageous.

Key Skills

Strong plant maintenance and repair experience combined with excellent hydraulic diagnostics, mechanical fault finding, electrical troubleshooting, and diesel engine repair skills. Experienced in preventative maintenance, breakdown response, workshop repairs, and field service operations. Able to demonstrate effective technical problem-solving skills, a strong understanding of health and safety requirements, excellent customer service, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Requirements

Previous experience as a Plant Fitter, Plant Engineer, Agricultural Engineer, HGV Technician, or in a similar engineering role. Strong diagnostic and fault-finding abilities with a good understanding of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems. Ability to manage workload effectively and work with minimal supervision. Full UK Driving Licence required. Relevant engineering qualifications are desirable but not essential where substantial industry experience can be demonstrated
