Location: North East England (Hybrid)
Rate: £30 - £40 per hour (depending on experience)
Contract: Initial 6 months
Looking for an opportunity to gain local authority experience whilst applying your transport planning expertise?

A local authority in the North East is seeking an Interim Transport Planner to support their Transport Planning team during a period of increased workload. This is an excellent opportunity for someone from a consultancy background to move into the public sector environment and play a key role in shaping development proposals across the region.

You'll be responsible for assessing planning applications from a highways and transportation perspective, reviewing developer submissions and providing technical advice to planning colleagues and stakeholders. The role offers a varied workload, ranging from smaller residential developments through to larger strategic schemes.

Where you will add value:
- Managing a caseload of planning applications and providing highways and transport recommendations
- Reviewing Transport Assessments, Transport Statements and Travel Plans submitted by developers
- Assessing access arrangements, visibility splays, parking provision and highway impacts
- Supporting pre-application discussions and agreeing transport assessment requirements
- Preparing technical reports and committee information for planning decisions
- Identifying opportunities for developer contributions through Section 106 agreements
- Undertaking site visits where required across the local authority area

To succeed in this role, you will need:
- Experience working within Transport Planning, ideally in a consultancy environment
- Experience preparing or reviewing Transport Assessments and Transport Statements
- A good understanding of development planning and highways considerations
- Strong report writing and stakeholder management skills
- A minimum of 2-3 years' relevant industry experience
- Ability to work independently and manage your own workload effectively
