We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Head of Finance to join a thriving and well-respected school. This is a unique opportunity to step into a strategic leadership role, where you will have real influence over financial performance, governance, and long-term sustainability.

Reporting directly to the COO, you will lead on all aspects of financial management—providing clear insight, driving best practice, and supporting senior stakeholders in making informed decisions.

The role

As Head of Finance, you’ll be responsible for delivering a high-quality finance function while leading a small, dedicated team. Your role will combine hands-on financial management with strategic input and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities include:

Leading financial operations, ensuring robust processes, controls, and accurate reporting
Producing monthly management accounts, budgets and forecasts with insightful variance analysis
Managing the annual audit and statutory accounts process
Overseeing cashflow, reconciliations, VAT, and financial compliance
Partnering with stakeholders across the organisation to support decision-making
Supporting governance through reporting to senior leadership and Trustees
Leading, developing, and motivating a team of three finance professionals
Driving process improvements and system enhancements across finance About you

We’re looking for a proactive and commercially aware finance professional who enjoys operating in a varied and impactful role.

You will bring:

A professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA or CIMA)
Strong experience in a broad financial management role
Proven ability to lead and develop a team
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly
A solution-focused mindset with a passion for improving processes
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities Experience within education would be beneficial, but not essential.
