Location: Northallerton
Hours: Part Time – 21 hours per week
Contract: Permanent

Do you have a passion for working in catering and hospitality? Are you looking to make a meaningful contribution to a community by supporting the preparation and serving of meals? If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you!

The Role

As a Kitchen Assistant, you'll be a key ingredient in keeping our kitchen running smoothly. From prepping and plating delicious meals to delivering friendly front-of-house service, you'll help create a positive, welcoming dining experience for our residents.

What You'll Be Doing

Food Preparation: Assist with preparing and plating meals to a high standard, ensuring all dietary and nutritional needs are met

Front of House Service: Provide a warm and friendly hosting experience, helping residents to their seats and serving meals within the scheme or to their homes

Food Safety & Compliance: Support food safety processes including temperature checks, labelling and accurate record-keeping in line with HACCP standards

Kitchen Standards: Follow cleaning schedules and maintain excellent hygiene and safety standards across kitchen and dining areas

Customer Experience: Handle day-to-day feedback, resolving queries where possible and escalating when needed

Efficient Working: Use supplies wisely, minimise waste and support cost-effective service delivery (because every crumb counts!)

Independent Working: Confidently prepare simple meals (like breakfasts, snacks and teas) when working without supervision

Dietary Awareness: Understand and support individual dietary requirements, particularly for older people in our care

Team Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues to keep service running smoothly and consistently

Continuous Improvement: Take part in training and development to stay up to date with food safety, allergens and catering best practice

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

A team player who thrives in a busy environment

Good organisation and timekeeping skills

Ability to work independently when required

Basic digital skills to use systems and equipment

A commitment to cleanliness, hygiene and high standards

Desirable (but not essential)

Experience working in a busy kitchen or catering environment

Knowledge of catering equipment

Level 1 Food Hygiene / Food Safety qualification (or willingness to work towards)

What You'll Need

Flexibility to work on a rota across 7 days

Willingness to wear uniform and PPE

Ability to cover additional shifts if required

A commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion

What We Offer

Competitive salary

Flexible working patterns

Training and development opportunities to help you grow your career

A supportive, friendly team where you'll feel right at home
