About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Project Manager to lead the delivery of complex engineering projects within the maritime sector.
This role is ideally suited to candidates who have progressed from an engineering discipline into project management and can confidently engage with customers and technical teams.
Experience within defence, marine or other highly regulated industries is highly advantageous.
Eligibility to obtain UK security clearance is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery
Deliver projects on time, within budget, and to specification
Ensure projects are properly planned, resourced, and executed
Assist with Non-Recurring Engineering (NRE) cost estimations
Monitor costs against project plans and escalate deviations
Create, maintain, and communicate detailed project plans including milestones and deliverablesProject Planning & Documentation
Develop comprehensive project specifications and system designs
Develop functional, environmental, and production test procedures
Prepare and manage project documentation including manuals, manufacturing record books, interface specifications, handling and storage procedures, and test/inspection plansRisk & Governance
Identify, document, assess, and mitigate project risks
Escalate significant risks to senior management where appropriate
Lead and participate in internal and external gateway reviews
Ensure compliance with internal standards and customer requirementsCustomer & Stakeholder Management
Manage customer engagement, including meetings and communications
Provide clear, timely communication to internal and external stakeholders
Support installation and commissioning activities remotely where required
Ensure effective handover and training to the Customer Support team
Conduct project closeout reviews and capture lessons learnedKnowledge, Skills & Experience
Essential
Working knowledge of the product development lifecycle
Proven experience delivering projects involving cross-functional teams
Experience liaising with customers and maintaining high levels of customer service
Experience working with stakeholders at all levels of seniority
Strong project management expertise including internal coordination and customer-facing delivery
Strong engineering background with the ability to engage confidently with customers and technical teamsDesirable
Experience delivering defence-sector projects
Experience within product development, NPI or regulated engineering environments
Mechanical design, programme or project management experienceQualifications
Essential
Degree (BSc/BEng or equivalent) in Engineering or related discipline, or relevant industry experienceDesirable
APM PMQ, PRINCE2, or equivalent project management certificationSecurity Clearance
