Location: Newark, Nottinghamshire
Pay Rate: £14.25 - £15.25 per hour

TeacherActive is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive specialist school in Newark from September 2026.

This rewarding role involves supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them to engage with learning, develop positive relationships, and achieve their full potential in a nurturing educational environment.

The Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:

Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
Assist in delivering tailored learning activities and interventions.
Support students in managing emotions and behaviour positively.
Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and progress.
Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff to meet individual learning and wellbeing needs.
Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

Has experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND, behavioural needs, or similar backgrounds.
Demonstrates patience, resilience, and empathy.
Has excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
Can remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
Holds relevant qualifications or training (desirable but not essential).
Has an enhanced DBS on the Update Service or is willing to obtain one.
