Teaching Assistant – SEMH Provision
We are seeking an exceptional Teaching Assistant to join our SEMH provision and become a valued member of a dedicated team supporting young people to achieve both academically and personally.
This role is ideal for someone who is proactive, adaptable, and able to use their initiative. We are looking for a Teaching Assistant who sees the whole child, and understands that relationships, wellbeing, and emotional regulation are often the foundation for educational success.
About the Role
As a whole-class Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside teaching staff to support a cohort of pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. You will provide both academic and pastoral support, helping pupils engage positively with learning while developing confidence, resilience, and independence.
We Are Looking For Someone Who:
* Builds positive, genuine relationships with young people.
* Is confident using their initiative and responding flexibly to the needs of the day.
* Understands that behaviour is a form of communication.
* Can provide both academic support and emotional guidance.
* Remains calm, patient, and solution-focused during challenging situations.
* Has high expectations and believes every young person can succeed.
* Enjoys working as part of a supportive and collaborative team.
Key Responsibilities
* Support learning across the classroom, helping pupils access lessons and achieve their potential.
* Provide targeted support for pupils who require additional academic intervention.
* Promote emotional regulation, resilience, and positive engagement.
* Support the implementation of behaviour and wellbeing strategies.
* Encourage independence, confidence, and self-esteem.
* Help create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.
* Contribute to the wider pastoral support of pupils and their families where appropriate.
* Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff, and external professionals to support positive outcomes.
