Smile Education are currently recruiting a qualified History Teacher to work within a secondary school in North Manchester, starting in the new academic year.
This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated and enthusiastic History specialist to join a large, inclusive secondary school with high expectations for teaching, learning, and student progress. The role is suitable for experienced teachers and Early Career Teachers who can deliver engaging History lessons across KS3 and KS4 and contribute positively to a supportive and ambitious department.

Role Overview
As a History Teacher, you will be responsible for planning and delivering high-quality lessons across KS3 and KS4. You will support students in developing secure historical knowledge, analytical skills, critical thinking, and the ability to evaluate sources and construct informed arguments.
You will be directly accountable for the progress of your classes and will be expected to monitor attainment, identify underachievement, and provide appropriate support and intervention. The successful candidate will maintain high expectations for behaviour, participation, and academic achievement while building positive and productive relationships with pupils.
You will also contribute to departmental planning, curriculum development, assessment, and the wider life of the school.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver engaging History lessons across KS3 and KS4.
Teach in line with the national curriculum and departmental schemes of work.
Monitor, assess, and track student progress and achievement.
Use assessment information to identify underachievement and provide targeted support.
Mark classwork and homework and provide constructive feedback.
Adapt teaching to support pupils of varying abilities, including SEND.
Use a range of teaching strategies to maintain challenge, engagement, and lesson momentum.
Set high expectations for behaviour and follow the school’s Behaviour for Learning policy.
Contribute to curriculum development, departmental meetings, and quality assurance activity.
Support cross-curricular priorities and wider school initiatives where required.
Attend relevant training and contribute to professional development.
Uphold the school’s values, professional standards, and safeguarding expectations.
Requirements
The successful candidate will:

Hold QTS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
Have experience teaching History within a UK secondary school.
Demonstrate excellent subject knowledge across KS3 and KS4.
Be able to plan and deliver well-structured lessons that engage and challenge pupils.
Have strong classroom and behaviour management skills.
Be able to assess, monitor, and support student progress effectively.
Demonstrate strong communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
Be professional, resourceful, reliable, and adaptable.
Be committed to supporting the academic and personal development of all pupils.
Be willing to contribute to departmental and wider school priorities.
Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to obtain one.
Have the full right to work in the UK.

£170–£235 per day, dependent on experience and pay scale.
