Salary: Up to £71,000 + Benefits
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and driven Maintenance Manager to support the Engineering Manager in leading the site's engineering function and developing a high-performing team.
This role is key to transforming the site from a reactive "repair culture" to a proactive continuous improvement environment, improving equipment reliability, operational performance, and overall efficiency.
You will lead from the front, embedding best practices, strengthening technical capability, and ensuring full compliance across all engineering activities.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Operations
Lead planned preventative maintenance (PPM) to maximise plant efficiency and reduce downtime
Ensure rapid and effective resolution of breakdowns impacting production
Drive improvements in equipment performance using continuous improvement techniques
Support installation and commissioning of new equipment
Maintain site infrastructure, utilities, and plant rooms to required standardsCompliance & Safety
Ensure all engineering activities comply with health & safety, legal, and environmental standards
Promote a strong site safety culture, including safe systems of work and machine guarding
Maintain audit readiness with high standards of hygiene, compliance, and documentation
Manage contractors and ensure adherence to company policies
Maintain accurate SOPs, risk assessments, and statutory inspection recordsContinuous Improvement
Drive the shift towards proactive maintenance strategies
Apply lean principles to improve reliability, efficiency, and productivity
Monitor engineering KPIs and utilities, identifying opportunities for improvement
Ensure effective spare parts management to support operationsLeadership & People Development
Lead, coach, and develop a team of engineers to build capability and engagement
Set clear expectations and manage performance effectively
Promote strong communication across shifts through regular team engagement
Support training, development, and succession planning
Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous learning
Manage attendance, holidays, and working hours in line with business needs
Ensure full compliance with training requirements
Recognise and reward positive performance and behaviours
About You
Experience & Skills
Proven experience in a maintenance leadership or supervisory role
Strong background within manufacturing or food production environments
Solid understanding of health & safety and statutory compliance
Experience managing both planned and reactive maintenance
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement and cultural changeQualifications
HNC (or equivalent) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (preferred)
NEBOSH Certificate (or equivalent) highly desirable
