Assistant Engineer

Hull Area | UK-Wide Travel | Full-Time | Permanent | Salary: £37k

A leading specialist engineering company is seeking an Assistant Engineer to join its growing field-based installation and service team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with mechanical aptitude, practical engineering experience, or a background in installation, maintenance, construction, or field service engineering to develop their career within a specialist industry.

The role is based in the Hull area and involves nationwide travel, working as part of a two-person team on projects across a variety of sectors including pharmaceutical manufacturing, healthcare, cleanrooms, food production, and retail environments.

The Role

As an Assistant Engineer, you will support the installation, servicing, maintenance, and repair of manual and automatic door systems at customer sites throughout the UK.

Working alongside experienced engineers, you will gain exposure to specialist equipment and technologies while helping to ensure all systems operate safely, efficiently, and in line with industry standards.

Regular overnight stays will be required during the week, along with occasional weekend work depending on project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Assist with the installation, commissioning, servicing, and repair of automatic and manual door systems.

Carry out planned maintenance and inspections on customer sites.

Support fault-finding and repair activities to minimise equipment downtime.

Ensure work is completed in accordance with health and safety regulations and company procedures.

Complete service documentation and maintenance records accurately.

Liaise professionally with customers, site managers, and colleagues.

Maintain company tools, equipment, and materials.

Support senior engineers on installation and service projects across the UK.

Attend training courses and continually develop technical knowledge.

What We're Looking For

Essential

Full UK driving licence.

Strong work ethic and willingness to learn.

Competent using hand tools, power tools, and battery-operated equipment.

Good communication and customer service skills.

Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Fluent spoken and written English.

Willingness to travel extensively and stay away from home on a regular basis.

Desirable

Previous experience within engineering, maintenance, installation, construction, manufacturing, or field service environments.

Experience working with automatic doors, industrial doors, access systems, or similar products.

CSCS Card.

Manual Handling Certificate.

Ability to read technical drawings and schematic diagrams.

Mechanical or electrical knowledge.
