Location: Chatham, Kent
Contract: Fixed Term Contract
Hours: Full Time
Salary: Dependent on experience

Academics are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team in a welcoming mainstream primary school in Chatham.

This rewarding role will involve working predominantly with Year 4 pupils, delivering targeted small-group interventions and learning activities to support academic progress across the Key Stage 2 curriculum. Strong KS2 curriculum knowledge, particularly in English and Mathematics, is essential.

The successful candidate will also provide some 1:1 support for a Year 4 pupil with additional needs, including autism, anxiety and sensory processing differences. We are looking for someone who can build positive relationships, understand individual needs and implement strategies that enable the pupil to engage successfully in school life and learning.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver high-quality small-group teaching and interventions for Year 4 pupils.
Support pupils in making progress across the KS2 curriculum.
Work closely with teaching staff to plan, deliver and assess learning activities.
Provide tailored 1:1 support for a pupil with autism, anxiety and sensory needs.
Implement personalised strategies and reasonable adjustments to support engagement and wellbeing.
Monitor and record pupil progress, providing feedback to teachers and the wider team.
Promote a positive, inclusive and nurturing learning environment.
Support the development of pupils' confidence, independence and social skills.

The Successful Candidate Will:

Hold HLTA status or possess equivalent qualifications and experience.
Have proven experience working within a primary school setting.
Demonstrate strong knowledge of the Key Stage 2 curriculum.
Have experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), particularly autism and anxiety.
Understand sensory needs and be able to adapt approaches to support regulation and engagement.
Be patient, resilient and able to build trusting relationships with pupils and families.
Have excellent communication, organisational and teamwork skills.
Be committed to inclusion and achieving the best outcomes for every child.
