SEMH Teaching Assistant – Bristol

Masterclass Education is currently recruiting dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistants to support specialist schools and alternative provisions across Bristol.

We are seeking individuals who are passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning and achieve positive outcomes. These roles offer the opportunity to work closely with students who require additional support with their social, emotional, and mental health needs.

Whether you have experience within education, youth work, residential care, support work, coaching, or mentoring, we would love to hear from candidates who can build positive relationships and make a meaningful difference to students' lives.

About the Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting students both inside and outside the classroom. Working alongside teachers and pastoral teams, you will help create a safe, engaging, and supportive learning environment where students can thrive.

Your responsibilities may include:

* Providing one-to-one and small group support to students.

* Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and behavioural challenges.

* Building positive and trusting relationships with young people.

* Encouraging engagement with learning and classroom activities.

* Assisting teachers with lesson delivery and classroom management.

* Supporting students during breaktimes, transitions, and intervention sessions.

* Promoting positive behaviour and wellbeing throughout the school day.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for individuals who:

* Have experience working with children or young people, particularly those with additional needs.

* Are patient, resilient, and able to remain calm under pressure.

* Have strong communication and relationship-building skills.

* Can demonstrate empathy and a genuine desire to support vulnerable learners.

* Are confident working as part of a team.

* Have an interest in behaviour support, mental health, or special educational needs.

Previous experience within schools is beneficial but not essential. Candidates from backgrounds such as youth work, care work, sports coaching, mentoring, and support services are encouraged to apply.

What You'll Receive

* Valuable experience within specialist education settings.

* Ongoing support from school leaders and education professionals.

* Opportunities for training and professional development.

* Long-term placements with the potential for permanent opportunities.

* The chance to make a genuine impact on students' educational journeys.

* Competitive rates of pay.
