SEND Primary Teacher / SEND Professional
1 to 1 role
Part-Time
Primary School
MertonWe are seeking a qualified teacher (QTS) or an experienced unqualified SEND practitioner to provide 1:1 support for a pupil with significant social and emotional needs. This is an immediate start opportunity, offered on a full-time or part-time basis depending on the successful candidate’s availability.

The role

In this role you will be providing 1:1 support for a Year 3 pupil within a primary school setting in Merton. The pupil is currently being educated at home due to significant trauma, and the Headteacher is seeking to support a carefully planned and gradual reintegration into structured school-based learning. This is a highly individualised role, with the pupil taught on a dedicated 1:1 basis away from the main classroom environment.

The pupil presents with highly complex needs and may display distressed, challenging, and at times physically aggressive behaviour. As such, the successful candidate must have significant experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs, trauma-informed approaches, and behaviours that challenge. Resilience, consistency, and the ability to build trusting relationships over time will be essential. The ability to remain calm under pressure, effectively de-escalate situations, and maintain a safe, predictable learning environment is critical.

The role requires a practitioner who can plan and deliver engaging, flexible learning tailored to the pupil’s interests, emotional readiness, and developmental level, while prioritising emotional regulation, safety, and relationship-building as the foundation for learning.

The School

The small, friendly 1-form-entry primary school is highly regarded within the local community and has a strong family ethos. Pupils are generally well-behaved, engaged in their learning, and enjoy both classroom-based activities and learning experiences within the local area. The school is recognised as a Rights Respecting School and benefits from strong home–school partnerships.

There is an established and supportive Headteacher in place, and staff work closely together to achieve the best possible outcomes for all pupils. The school has a collaborative culture and is committed to inclusive practice and pupil wellbeing.

To apply for this position, you must:
Have a positive, proactive and resilient approach
Demonstrate a strong understanding of supporting trauma and SEMH needs
Be confident in building relationships with pupils who require a highly individualised approach
Be able to remain calm under pressure and respond effectively to challenging behaviourIf this position is of interest, please apply with an up-to-date CV.

We have a policy to respond to all applications within three working days. However, because of the volume of applications, we are sometimes unable to reply to individual enquiries. If we have not contacted you within this specified time your application has been unsuccessful on this occasion.
