You will be working for an established maintenance contractor with extensive experience delivering projects and maintenance support to the prison service.

No Specific clearance is required for this role!

This role is based within a live secure facility and will involve overseeing a range of mechanical works with a plumbing focus. This includes planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive repairs, mechanical installations, and refurbishment works. Due to additional workloads, the team is seeking a skilled Mechanical Supervisor to support operational delivery in a challenging but rewarding environment.

Important to Know

* All candidates must pass enhanced security and criminal background checks prior to starting

* Due to the secure nature of the facility, personal items such as mobile phones are prohibited beyond security checkpoints

* The role requires working in close coordination with site-based maintenance and security staff and adhering to strict protocols and schedules

* The prison environment may be challenging and is not suited for individuals uncomfortable with high-security procedures or controlled access areas

Key Responsibilities

* Supervise and coordinate mechanical works including plumbing repairs, PPM tasks, and system upgrades

* Oversee and deliver refurbishment and installation works including sanitaryware, heating, and pipework

* Support hands-on work including diagnosing and fixing plumbing issues (e.g. leaks, blockages, faulty valves)

* Monitor subcontractors and internal teams to ensure safe, compliant, and quality delivery of works

* Work closely with planners and managers to ensure projects run on time and to scope

* Ensure accurate records of labour, materials, job progress, and completed works are maintained

* Implement and monitor health & safety compliance, RAMS, and site tool control procedures

* Liaise with site contacts and report any security concerns or logistical issues affecting work progression

* Assist with tool audits, materials control, and sign-off documentation as per prison protocol

What You’ll Need

* Strong plumbing background with supervisory experience on mechanical maintenance or installation projects

* NVQ Level 3 in Plumbing & Heating, Mechanical Services or equivalent (time-served considered)

* Experience working in high-security or live environments (e.g. hospitals, prisons, MOD, education) is highly desirable

* Good knowledge of health & safety, PPM scheduling, and reactive fault finding

* IT literate and confident using PDA systems and work record tools

* CSCS/JIB or equivalent health & safety certification

* SMSTS or SSSTS certification would be beneficial but not essential

* Full UK driving licence preferred due to potential secure site access logistics

Additional Information

* This is a long-term role with the potential for extension and/or permanent opportunities

* Applicants must be comfortable working in a prison environment and undergoing vetting procedures

* Tools and PPE must be signed in/out and managed securely on site per daily tool check processes

* This role would suit someone reliable, detail-oriented, and confident supervising small teams in a live, secure setting
