Machinist / Mechanical Fitter (Toolroom)
Location: Luton
Job Type: Temporary to Permanent, Full-Time
About the Role
An established engineering organisation with a long-standing history dating back to the late 1800s is seeking a skilled Machinist / Mechanical Fitter to join its team. The business supports a diverse client base of over 3,500 customers across the UK, including major manufacturers and globally recognised brands.
Specialising in asset performance optimisation, the company delivers services across motors, gearboxes, pumps, machining, induction, condition monitoring and fabrication.
This position is based within a toolroom environment, focusing largely on one-off components and bespoke engineering work.
Key Responsibilities
Set up and operate manual machinery including lathes, milling machines, radial drills, grinders and borers
Carry out mechanical repairs including reclamation of worn shafts, bearings, housings and threads
Work to tight tolerances (typically down to 0.001") on industrial equipment
Accurately use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, verniers, callipers, slip gauges and depth gauges
Manufacture new components from engineering drawings or reverse-engineered specifications
Maintain accurate records of dimensions, limits and fits in a low-volume, high-precision environment
Promote and adhere to safe working practices at all timesSkills & Experience
Secondary school education or equivalent
Completed engineering apprenticeship (preferred)
Practical, hands-on machining experience gained through on-the-job training
Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and repair techniques
High level of attention to detail and accuracyWhat's on Offer
