An established and highly respected Building Services Contractor is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing Design Management team in Central London.

This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically biased Building Services professional who enjoys coordinating, reviewing and managing design rather than undertaking detailed hands-on design calculations and production work.

Working closely with the Design Director and an experienced team, you will play a key role in managing mechanical design development through the detailed design and construction phases of a diverse portfolio of projects.

The business delivers technically challenging schemes across the commercial, hospitality, residential, sports and public sectors, including major refurbishments, decarbonisation programmes, stadium upgrades and high-end residential developments.

The Role

• Manage and coordinate mechanical design activities from RIBA Stages 3-5

• Liaise with external MEP design consultants and specialist subcontractors

• Review design information for technical compliance, coordination and buildability

• Support tender submissions, bid preparation and pre-construction activities

• Attend and lead design coordination meetings and workshops

• Work closely with project delivery, procurement and commercial teams

• Identify design risks and develop practical engineering solutions

• Ensure designs meet project, client and regulatory requirements

• Drive design programmes to ensure information is delivered on time

• Assist in value engineering and design optimisation exercises

Requirements

• Degree, HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering

• Experience within a Building Services Consultancy, Main Contractor or MEP Contractor environment

• Strong understanding of mechanical building services systems

• Experience coordinating, reviewing or managing design information

• Good understanding of design management and project delivery processes

• Ability to communicate effectively with consultants, clients and internal teams

• Commercial awareness and understanding of construction delivery programmes

• Previous involvement in tendering, pre-construction or design management activities would be advantageous

What's on Offer

• Hybrid working

• Private Medical Insurance

• Reward Platform

• Travel Expenses

• Death in Service Cover

• Wellbeing Forum

• Genuine career progression opportunities

• Exposure to prestigious and technically challenging projects across multiple sectors

• Opportunity to work closely with senior leadership and influence project delivery

This position would suit a Mechanical Design Engineer, Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, Design Coordinator, Mechanical Design Manager or MEP Design Manager seeking a role with greater project influence and responsibility within a successful and growing contractor.
