Server Build Engineer - Maritime/Defence (MOD Programme)

Warrington (with UK dockyard travel & extended vessel deployments)
£40,000 + 10% DV allowance + company car + paid overtime

I'm recruiting on behalf of a leading defence technology organisation supporting a long-standing MOD and Navy Digital programme delivering mission-critical network and infrastructure solutions across Royal Navy vessels and secure maritime environments.

This is a rare opportunity for an infrastructure or network engineer to work directly on operational Royal Navy platforms, supporting everything from secure server builds and VMware environments through to network deployment, installation and live support.

This is not a typical 9-5 network infrastructure role, it's hands-on engineering work that moves from secure factory build in Warrington - dockyard deployment - onboard live naval systems. Expect real engineering, real environments, and real impact.

What You'll Be Doing

Working as part of a specialist engineering team, you'll support the delivery of secure infrastructure and network solutions across multiple naval platforms.

• Building and configuring server and node environments (Windows & VMware)
• Supporting network infrastructure deployment and integration
• Installing and configuring Switches, communications equipment and associated infrastructure
• Supporting software build activities, patching and system updates
• Deploying solutions into secure MOD environments
• Installing and integrating systems onboard Royal Navy vessels
• Supporting data migration, fault finding and L2 infrastructure support
• Working closely with network, communications and infrastructure specialists during deployment activities
• Supporting factory acceptance, harbour acceptance and live operational activities
• This is a build - deploy - support role with significant hands-on engineering involvement.

Experience Required

Networking & Infrastructure

• Cisco networking experience (Switches, routing, VLANs, network troubleshooting)
• Network deployment and installation experience
• Infrastructure support and fault finding
• Understanding of communications and networked environments

Server & Virtualisation

• VMware vSphere (essential)
• Windows Server
• Active Directory, DNS and Group Policy
• Server build and deployment experience

Additional Skills (Desirable)

• VMware NSX or Horizon
• Riverbed technologies
• PowerShell (ability to understand and troubleshoot scripts)
• Remedy or other ITSM tools
• Defence, MOD, maritime or secure environment experience
