English Academic Coach

Could this be the school-based role that takes you from graduate support work into a qualified teaching career? Are you looking for a route where you can build confidence in the classroom, support pupils in English, and move towards salaried teacher training?

*** English Academic Coach
*** September 2026 – July 2027
*** £85 - £102 per day
*** Unique secondary school, central Birmingham
*** Opportunity to train as an English teacher (salaried route)

The Role:
Join the English department in a developmental role designed to build your classroom confidence before teacher training. You will support pupils through 1:1 intervention, small-group academic work, lesson support, and targeted help with reading, writing, analysis, and exam preparation, while learning from experienced staff in a busy secondary setting.

The Candidate:
You are articulate, organised, and able to explain ideas clearly in a way pupils understand. You want proper secondary school experience, enjoy helping students improve in English, and see this as a genuine route into teaching rather than just another temporary role.

Requirements
• Degree – A 2:2 or above in English, English Literature, Creative Writing, or a related subject.
• Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
• Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.
• Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.
• Career Goals – A desire to train as a teacher and build a long-term career in education.

The School:
This unique secondary school in central Birmingham offers a strong setting for a graduate who wants to prove themselves in the classroom and then progress. You will work closely with an established English team in a setting that values subject knowledge, purposeful intervention, and future teachers. It is a strong opportunity for someone who wants to develop in school first and then move into a salaried route towards becoming a qualified English teacher.

How to Apply
Apply today with your CV to be considered for this English Academic Coach role. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted to discuss next steps and arrange interview. Early applications are encouraged, as the school may appoint before the closing date.
