Job Title: Java Developer
Rate: £478 Inside

Location: Remote with one day onsite per week in Manchester

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable Java microservices and APIs
• Develop secure and high-performance Back End systems for government digital services
• Work in Agile/Scrum teams alongside product managers, testers, and DevOps engineers
• Contribute to system architecture decisions and technical design discussions
• Integrate services with databases, messaging systems, and third-party APIs
• Ensure code quality through unit testing, TDD/BDD practices, and peer reviews
• Support deployment pipelines using CI/CD tools
• Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize existing systems
• Ensure compliance with government security and accessibility standards

Essential Skills & Experience

• Strong commercial experience with Java (8/11/17+)
• Experience with Spring Boot/Spring Framework
• Building RESTful APIs and microservices architecture
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP - AWS preferred in gov projects)
• Knowledge of CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, etc.)
• Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases
• Strong understanding of software engineering best practices (TDD, SOLID principles)
• Experience working in Agile environments
