Job Title: Java Developer
Rate: £478 Inside
Duration: 6 months
Location: Remote with one day onsite per week in Manchester
Clearance: BPSS
Stages: 1 Stage
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable Java microservices and APIs
- Develop secure and high-performance Back End systems for government digital services
- Work in Agile/Scrum teams alongside product managers, testers, and DevOps engineers
- Contribute to system architecture decisions and technical design discussions
- Integrate services with databases, messaging systems, and third-party APIs
- Ensure code quality through unit testing, TDD/BDD practices, and peer reviews
- Support deployment pipelines using CI/CD tools
- Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize existing systems
- Ensure compliance with government security and accessibility standards
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong commercial experience with Java (8/11/17+)
- Experience with Spring Boot/Spring Framework
- Building RESTful APIs and microservices architecture
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP - AWS preferred in gov projects)
- Knowledge of CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, etc.)
- Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases
- Strong understanding of software engineering best practices (TDD, SOLID principles)
- Experience working in Agile environments
