Senior Utility Design Engineer / Senior Cable Route Engineer

A leading infrastructure engineering business is looking to appoint a Senior Utility Design Engineer to join its growing team in Epsom, Borehamwood or Ruislip.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced infrastructure professional to join a specialist team delivering cable route and utility infrastructure projects that support the UK's energy transition, power networks and digital infrastructure growth.
The business is involved in major infrastructure programmes across utilities, energy, telecommunications and wider infrastructure sectors, offering a diverse and technically interesting workload.

The Role

You'll lead the delivery of cable route feasibility and design projects from inception through to detailed design.
Approximately 70% of the role focuses on route feasibility, corridor assessments and technical reporting. You'll be responsible for identifying optimal cable routes, assessing engineering and environmental constraints, coordinating surveys and ground investigations, engaging with stakeholders and producing technical recommendations.
The remainder of the role involves detailed design work associated with utility infrastructure, including chambers, ducting systems, utility corridors and supporting civil engineering elements.
Projects range from local utility improvements through to strategic infrastructure routes spanning many miles, providing excellent variety and technical challenge.

What We're Looking For

Experience within utilities, power, telecoms, rail infrastructure or wider infrastructure sectors.
Strong background in feasibility studies, route planning or infrastructure design.
Experience producing technical reports and engineering documentation.
Good AutoCAD capability (2D AutoCAD is sufficient).
Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
Experience coordinating multidisciplinary projects.
Commercial awareness and client-facing experience.
Ability to support and mentor more junior team members.

Why Apply?

This is a unique opportunity to join a growing specialist team delivering projects that sit at the heart of the UK's infrastructure investment programme.
You'll become one of the senior members of a close-knit group, helping shape project delivery while supporting the development of graduate and junior engineers. The role offers a blend of technical leadership, project management and stakeholder engagement, with genuine opportunities for progression as the team continues to expand.
The work is varied, strategically important and offers exposure to some of the most significant utility and energy infrastructure projects currently being delivered across the UK.

Benefits

Competitive salary with annual reviews.
Hybrid working arrangements.
Pension scheme.
Professional development and training support.
Exposure to nationally significant infrastructure projects.
Strong progression opportunities.
Collaborative and supportive team culture.
Long-term career stability within a growing sector.
